Sweet Corn Processing

August 18, 2026

A big thanks goes out to the fire company friends from our community who made our sweet corn processing possible this year.

The 1st thanks goes out to Dave and Patti from Little Germany Farms for providing the (fabulous) corn. NBFD members went to the corn patch on Tuesday evening and picked over 165 dozen ears.

The 2nd thanks goes out to our community friends who came to station 8 to husk, desilk, blanch and freeze the corn. Special recognition goes to members, Dwayne and Daniel for coordinating these efforts.

Additionally, thanks to all NBFD members who assisted with the various tasks involved in this process.

The processed sweet corn is essential for the chicken corn soup served during the carnival and street fair, providing both excellent flavor and significant cost savings. This year, a total of 32 buckets of sweet corn—equivalent to 832 pounds—were frozen and stored.

NBFD thanks everyone again for your SWEET donations and time.
