A few years ago, NBFD responded to a barn fire in our 1st due area that was extinguished with minor damage. After the smoke cleared, members spotted a ladder in the rafters. After climbing up it was discovered to be one of the ladders off the old ladder truck originally from the Riley Hook and Ladder Company in Harrisburg, Pa. NBFD received this ladder truck from Harrisburg City on September 4th 1936 for the cost of $4.25. That was the price for the meals for the men that delivered it.
Now what to do. The owner of the barn gave us permission to remove it and then he donated the ladder back to the fire company. (thanks Dr. Tim) This is a 60 feet banger ladder and needs a home until our new station is done. (thanks Dave McLaughlin) So, as we start to move some things into the station, members went up and retrieved the ladder and started to wash and remove years of dirt with lots of rubbing. This ladder will hang in the new station after it is finished. Thanks to the members for taking time and preserving this ladder. What a great piece of our history.
